People in New York: Uli, a nurse from the Swabian Jura, to whose image of America Karl May also contributed, practices her naive innocence as a survival strategy. As the only white person, she lives in Harlem. She works in the psychiatric emergency department of a hospital. Claudia from Essen recounts her rape and her unbroken determination to assert herself. Anna earned the money for her training as a psychotherapist by working as a go-go girl. In two Catholic schools she helps children with their conflicts.
